Senior Project - WEEK 14 - Dramatic Finish!!

Senior Project || WEEK 13 || Dramatic Finish!!
Oops! I didn't realize we we're gonna have another week of these! Okay so THIS is the final Behance doodle! Just had to remove the (almost) there haha!
This has been such a journey, and I am so happy to have finally crossed the finish line!

I became confident that no matter what, I'll finish the short. I had the homestretch in the bag! So my anxiety went from finishing to the PROCESS of finishing. Being worried of the nitty-gritty, but confident in the end result, made it so much easier on myself mentally, so despite these past 2 weeks being a major grind-fest, it was honestly a lot of fun!

Like.. I was REALLY enjoying my time with these final shots! And I think that passion really shines through here! All these shots from 14-26 ended up being my absolutely favorites in the whole short, so I think they all deserve a spotlight!! It'll be quite the read so get ready!

SHOT 14
This shot and shot 21 (we'll go over that later down!) we're on my mind the most since they had the most action-y movement of this set. There were times where I'd be sitting in other classes unable to work on the project, so I'd just sketch the frames down in my notebook, trying to visualize the frames in my head. It came to the point where I started seeing the CSP timeline in my mind while walking between classes..

But you can see there in the middle the movement for shot 14, and I pretty much nailed it! There's such a weighty feel to it by having a bunch of extra frames at the top of the loop!

A lot of people thought Penny was holding a Toblerone, but my intention was meant to be one of those conveyor dividers you see at the checkout! I think it's a funny coincidence though, because I had the slight feeling that it looked like a Toblerone halfway into the shot haha. I think both interpretations work for her!
SHOT 16
Okay, now THIS is a shot I've been so curious to see come to fruition for a WHILE now. After making the poster for Convergence, I REALLY dug the dotted halftone. Initially, the background was just gonna be the same background of the store when Penny's at the counter, but I'm so glad I went with this flat-color + halftone style instead! It feels much more comic-y and brings back some of the charm I wanted from the original vision!

The colors are also based on the backpack/eye colors of each of the Coin Tea members!
The product references in this shot are based on some of my online friends, because they've been a huge support in cheering me on throughout this semester!

Chloe helped with coloring this shot, and Renell helped with making the stunned Nickel at the end shake and sink around in After Effects! I couldn't have done it without them!!
SHOT 19
I'm super proud of this shot, I made sure to triple check the scene with more experienced ASL speakers to make sure Yen was good to go! Representation of this kind of stuff in media is always exciting to see in my opinion, so I gave this shot the care it deserved!

I was expecting to have a hard time animating the hand movement, but honestly? Like I said earlier, I was having so much fun with all these shots, My animation skills feel like they have "de-rusted" since the beginning of the semester and I essentially breezed through this shot with ease!

The coloring and background we're handled by my boyfriend. I think he did an amazing job with it!

I also want to give a special shoutout to my friend Ethan, they we're the one to come up with the initial concept of Yen and the two of us worked together to make her who she is now in Coin Tea! We're both ecstatic to see her come to life, and it means so much to us both to hear so much love for her from others! She seems to be a fan favorite!
SHOTS 21-25
Like I said in Shot 14, shot 21 was another shot I was constantly thinking about, adapting the intense running from the animation was for sure gonna be tricky. My notebook sketch was pretty spot on though! I just needed a few more frames here and there!

It's a bit different from what I initially imagined it to look like but MAN I am SO happy with how it turned out honestly!
I did the line art for this whole sequence, while my bf handled the coloring and backgrounds. He added a couple of things too like thickening some lines for impact and stuff, so it was kind of a team effort! He went ham with the coloring on this shot too, like just look at it!

I really wasn't excepting the class to clap during the sequence, before the short was even over, it made my heart race I won't lie!!
The music was hand-made by another friend of mine who was happy to help out! He really enjoyed it, so much so that he made an extended version!! Check it out!!
SHOT 26
Nothing crazy here! Just happy with how this came out! I'm really proud of how weighty Nickel's get-up animation looks here, and the sound I found for it really helped too. Yen's sigh was also super cute! My friend who did the music in the last sequence also made it for me ^^

The smoke was also done by Renell, she did great with making it super nice and snappy!
And that's everything! It's been such a wild ride but I'm so happy for it to be done. I'm really proud of my work and I can't wait to share it with the world! Just gotta touch up the Behance page for Convergence!

For privacy sake I will be privating all these Behance posts once Convergence wraps up, and will be uploading the short with my internet alias!

Thank you all so much for being a part of my journey, and if you bothered to read this to the end, you rock!!
